On March 7th, 2014 Dr.Matt Koci (professor at North Carolina State University), Rizwana Ali (One of Dr.Koci's workers in the lab), and one of his PhD.D students (Ann) came to our school to give us advice on how to get started on one of our projects. Our goal is to use recombinant E. coli bacteria to produce a turkey blood protein known as (IL-8) so that we can extract and purify it for the Koci lab at NCSU to use in their poultry research. Dr. Koci gave a clear outline of the things we have to do to make our project successful. We would like to thank Dr.Koci and his colleagues for taking time out of their busy schedules to help the students at Bertie Early College start this project.
